We are seeking a Supportive Roommate who will be responsible for providing support to a young man in his 30s with a developmental disability.
The ideal roommate will move into and share the cost of an established apartment (rent, utilities, food). The ideal candidate will report directly to, and be guided by the goals and objectives determined in collaboration and consultation with the family and individual. The supportive roommate will be responsible for supporting the development of skills and competencies that will assist our family member to pursue and fulfill his goal of living as independently as possible.
– Engage with the individual in activities within the community
– Facilitate meaningful participation within activities
– Respect and support observation of religious practices.
The ideal candidates will possess:
– A belief and commitment to inclusion, the right for all people to belong, participate and contribute
– An openness to learning new ideas
– Experience with and understanding of behaviors
– The ability to work independently in unstructured environments and to employ effective time
– Excellent coaching skills with the knowledge of and ability to demonstrate and support the development of skills as they relate to independent living
– A valid Class 5 driver’s license
– A reliable vehicle to be able to transport the individual to activities and work
– Minimum of 2 years experience working with individuals with disabilities
– First Aid and CPR certification
– A recent criminal record check
The applicants must be punctual, reliable and have the ability to exhibit a great deal of patience.
