U of C FSA’s EXPOSED Art Gala 2010. The Filipino Student’s Association wants to recognize the many up and coming talents emerging onto the arts scene. EXPOSED will be an evening to celebrate local artist, artisans, and musicians through exhibiting their multi-media.

Admission is $7 at the door, or you can get your tickets early through contacting one of the FSA execs. All proceeds go towards funding future events hosted by the U of C’s Filipino Students Association in support of Calgary’s flourishing arts and cultural scene.

Feel free to make a mix-tape/mix-cd of your favorite tracks of any genre (80’s dance, slow jams, psychedelic rock etc. etc.) or maybe even a mix of your own original work, and bring it to the show! We’ll be having a mix-tape exchange: a drop-box where you can share your favorite music and discover someone else’s!

Watch Miss Saigon in Calgary presented by the University of Calgary Operetta Company. Over 70 artists work together on Broadway legend. Artists from all backgrounds will join to present one of the musical theatre world’s most popular productions from January 14 – 23. The cast of 49 and a 24-piece pit orchestra will present a unique version of Boublil and Schönberg’s Miss Saigon.

About Miss Saigon
Set in 1975 during the final days of the American occupation of Saigon, Miss Saigon is an epic love story. Chris, a troubled American G.I., and Kim, an orphaned Vietnamese woman, find comfort in each other as the Vietnam War spirals out of control. Their few days of love, which are cut short with the fall of Saigon, set into motion a life-and-death chain of events.

This is the sixth full-scale production mounted by the UofC Operetta Company. Past shows include Trial by Jury, Pirates of Penzance, West Side Story and Dido and Aeneas.

The original Miss Saigon lead was performed by the world famous Filipina Lea Salonga who was recently in Toronto last summer in concert. Lea Salonga has only performed in Miss Saigon, but she has been the singing voice for many Disney movies such as Mulan, Pocahontas, Aladdin and more.

*Miss Saigon is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

Laughn n Lovin comedy show in Calgary. On 2010 Valentines holiday weekend, Prime Dragon Productions will be having a Valentines comedy show entitled, “L na L (Laughin’ n Lovin’)”.

This Valentines comedy show (Laughing and Loving) guarantees to offer heart-pounding entertainment as you laugh with one of Philippines top comedian, Vice “Kabayo” Ganda accompanied by “The Forever Divah,” Anton Diva and BJ Hans. Expect to feel in love, as one of the best acoustic singers, Nyoy Volante, serenades the night. Hot and sultry Cristine Reyes will render a performance to sizzle the evening.
